Roquefavour aqueduct

I did not know the Roquefavour aqueduct was the largest stone aqueduct in the world. Is is 410yd long and 272ft high and it is made up of three rows of arches. Apparently it was built in order to supply Marseille with water and saved the city from cholera and the plague. The aqueduct was modeled on the Pont du Gard. But it is considerably larger. Some people think that its modern construction seems rather too perfect and thus it would fail to achieve the same effect you get when you face the Pont du Gard. I think the aqueduct is quite impressive and this spot is one of the most peaceful one I know. Watch the video and get there early in the morning :-)

Residence Les Trois Moulins

A friend of mine has recently moved into a new flat. I paid him a visit today and discovered a new place on top of one of Aix-en-Provence surrounding hills. The place's called Residence des Trois Moulins, which means "the three mills residence". This is the second mill, few meters away from the first one. This one has occupants inside : Unfortunately we did not find the third one and we did not collect any information about these mills. Do you know more ? Anyway, the view was great and the residence has a great collection of pine trees, flowers and green spaces. On top of that, you get one of the best view of Sainte Victoire mountain. Poppies everywhere

I was driving to Aix en Provence when I first came accross fields full of poppies. The intense color of such a sight remains unforgettable but I knew I had to come back and shoot it :-) Enjoy these poppies because they will be all dead in 15 days !

Stopover at Eguilles

I had an appointment today and I managed to make a detour via the village of Eguilles :-) Eguilles is nestled some 300m above sea-level, less than a dozen kilometres to the west of Aix en Provence. Its privileged geographic position offers a unique view over the surrounding countryside. Here are a few snapshots :

Above is the Castle (now Eguilles town hall)) and the adjacent church : Here is the panorama you get : You can see vineyards, forests, (mainly pines, oaks, and scrubland) and cereal crops. And then, on the way back to Aix-en-Provence :

Barbecue facing Sainte Victoire

Today it's a rainy day. It gives me time to show you the short video clip I did yesterday night. A friend of mine had invited me for dinner. His house faces Ste Victoire moutain. It was a very pleasant night.

Sausset Les Pins

This morning I went to Sausset-Les-Pins and its small fishing boats. It's a about 50 kilometers away from Aix en Provence. I wanted to buy fish for my lunch. Unfortunately I was late. The small shops had already packed when I arrived. Anyway Sausset Les Pins still seems to be the perfect place to have fish that was still alive an hour ago.

So I decided to have a drink instead and stopped on a terrasse, straight onto the beach. I stayed there for an hour and then went back to Aix-en-Provence to get some tuna for lunch !

Parc de la Torse

I went to the park de la Torse this morning. It was just before lunch. There are several parks in Aix en Provence but this one is close to my flat, just off the Route Cézanne. It was not crowdy yet as it is usualy... Avoid it on sundays. A river runs right accross the park :

La Colline Des Lauves (Paul Cezanne)

Unfamous spot where Paul Cezanne used to paint Sainte Victoire mountain. The scenery looks quite cool. The area is not crowdy at all. You dont' get many tourists around because buses can't park nearby ! You get a bit of history about Cezanne related to this spot. On this particular spot (a beautiful area located near "La Marguerite" small way) Cezanne did about 28 of his famous paintings that are now stored in all-over-the-world museums. His workshop (Atelier Cezanne) is not very far away ! Ask me if you need explanations :-) (to be continued ...!)
